Really helps to regulate blood sugar, best brand that I have found!Jul 02, 2011
I have been using gymnema to help control my blood sugar for about 2 years as I'm a Type 2 diabetic. By changing the way I eat to a "Traditional Diet" and taking Gymnema I have been able to reduce my diabetic prescriptions from 3 different medicines to only one. My HgbA1c have decreased from 8 to 6.2! I had been using Gymnema by Mediherb but when I needed to order more, I was having trouble finding it. Since I had run out and was getting higher readings, I decided to try a different brand but it seemed to have no effect with the blood sugar. So I tried another brand and it didn't work either. I then found Nutrigold Gymnena Gold and I have been very happy with this product. My blood sugar readings are better than with the Mediherb brand. I have been using the Nutrigold Gymnena for about 6 months and have been very happy with the results, my last HgbA1c was 5.8! I also like this product because it doesn't have any artificial ingredients, preservatives or fillers. There are no extra additives either such as soy or stearates. Fast shipping and very reasonable shipping cost!

great for precontestOct 12, 2011
By Anthony R. Langevin
I use Gymnema Sylvestra during the precontest phase while preparing for natural bodybuilding contests. It helps control the desire for sweets. Gymnema gold also seems to control blood sugar. This accompanied with a low carb diet and proper training program will help you attain a lean physique.
You must take this product with food especially the first time or you will become nauseous. This should be marked on the label.

Update of Initial ImpressionAug 08, 2012
By Abraham B
I don't write reviews nearly often enough for the volume of shopping I do on Amazon, OR for how critical others' reviews are to me as I decide where to spend my money. That I'm here typing this at 12:49AM divulges just how excited I am about this product. First, let me apologize for the 3-star rating--I just don't know how this product will work and promise to return to update everyone (reading this). I have nearly no confidence in supplements, especially ones that tout weight management claims, but after having read quite a few articles about this herb decided I'd give it a try. Yesterday was day one.
My first impressions are positive. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but a few hours after taking the herb I felt queasy and didn't want to eat for many hours after (about 7.5). While that may be a liability to some, it's a boon to me, as I've a nearly unquenchable appetite. About four hours after the first capsule I tried some agave syrup; it tasted medicinal, like thick plastic paste. Even if these are consistently the only effects of the herb I'll continue to buy it and will upgrade my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. The additional potential physiological effects--on blood lipid profiles, etc--would be a great bonus, but they're not my major objectives.
Around 8 hours after taking the herb, though, my sugar cravings returned (with dinner tonight), but muted. I took another capsule with dessert about an hour ago to see what the effects would be. I again feel slightly nauseous, and my usually persistent sweet-tooth is once again stunningly blunted--to the extent that I don't want any more dessert despite how easy it would be to prepare it. If this is the pattern with this herb, and if I don't acclimate to it so that it loses its efficacy for me, then I may have found one of the most valuable accoutrements to my life. I don't mean to be melodramatic, but my addiction to sugar has wrought havoc on my life--personally and professionally. If something non-habit forming can get me beyond sugar addiction, it would literally be a life-saver.
Here's hoping. I'll update everyone in early September 2012, about a month after taking Gymnema sylvestre consistently.
Update, August 19th
This is the first time I've ever updated one of the few reviews I've ever posted, but feel compelled to share my experience in case it's helpful to others considering this product. After about two weeks increasing my dosage, I've found that the initial effects I perceived--slight nausea, and appetite suppression--have utterly vanished. On day four of taking the product I upped the dose to a capsule before breakfast and mid-afternoon, hoping to regain the appetite suppression I'd experienced with the first capsule. No such luck. By day six I was taking a capsule before each meal, but my appetite had returned in force. I've continued to take 2-3 capsules a day, morning and evening, but have noticed only an increase in appetite. To be fair, I've been slightly more active lately. I don't know if there are any early positive changes taking place in my blood chemistry, but I don't perceive any persisting effects on my appetite, and certainly none on my affinity for sweets.
I was extremely hopeful, but this version of gymnema sylvestre hasn't worked for me, at least.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 3RD
I've been using this product daily since receiving it, taking from 1 to 2 capsules with a full glass of water about a half hour before a moderate to high starch or sugar meal (on average 3 capsules daily). I've also added to my regimen g. sylvestre extract (in alcohol) applied under the tongue--found via a company willing to have its product tested via an independent laboratory for confirmation of content of the active compound. Regarding the g. sylvestre capsules, after about a month of consistent use I've noticed no difference in appetite or effect on blood sugar. I've had our university medical center test my blood sugar for comparison during, and recently while taking the g. sylvestre capsules (against a baseline reading from my university physical in June 2012) and the lab has found no significant difference in blood sugar variation throughout four separate trials.
My major goal was to overcome my compulsion for sugary foods. I'd have been happy with lowered blood sugar level as a bonus, but without taming my lust for sweets I felt I was destined to ruin my health. As with many programs in the past, g. sylvestre seemed to offer hope, but that fizzled quickly. One caveat: the liquid extract directly on the tongue does effectively dull the ability to taste sweet foods for several hours (~3). However, since it doesn't control my craving for sweets, I found I'd have to take the expensive extract throughout the day just in case I indulged in something sweet--and I confess that since I still wanted the taste of sweet, I have stopped using the extract. The capsules, however, were for me a waste of my hard earned money.
As a disclaimer, I am not formally affiliated with any alternative health product or company. The g. sylvestre capsules I'm reviewing may work for some, but based on my own experience, I cannot recommend this product.

Sugar SlaveNov 19, 2011
I have always been addicted to sugar. I love ice cream, pastries, soda, etc. Sweets are the sabotage to my weight loss goals. I started taking Gymnema Gold Sugar Destroyer because I wanted to take control of my sugar cravings. Once I started taking the Gymnema Gold, I noticed that even when I had the biggest sugar cravings, once I placed the sweet treat in my mouth, I couldn't taste the sweetness, so I found myself not being able to enjoy sweets and I no longer craved any sweets. This is a great product and I will continue to use this product until I get to my goal weight!
